From T-72 to Abrams: how the Coalition is providing Defense Forces with armored vehicles.

The Coalition in support of Ukraine has been formed
In March 2024, the Coalition for Armored Vehicles and Maneuverability began its work. The initiative to create such a Coalition belongs to Poland, which was joined by Germany and Italy. The Coalition also includes the USA, Great Britain, Canada, Czech Republic, Greece, Portugal, Turkey, Sweden, France, Spain, and Finland.
The main goal of the Coalition is to strengthen the technical park of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Under the Coalition, training of personnel and proper technical maintenance, repair of equipment and weapons provided by allies are being implemented. The Coalition also promotes the development of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and their increased interaction with NATO, as reported by the Ministry of Defense.
The Coalition was divided into four syndicates with their own tasks:
- supplying armored vehicles and ammunition;
- technical maintenance and repair;
- training crews and technical personnel;
- developing tactics, doctrines, mastering, and implementing experience.
Members of the Coalition have provided Ukraine with hundreds of samples of tanks and armored vehicles. Starting from simple models such as the T-72 and BMP-1, Ukraine has now received modern tanks, including Leopard-1 and Leopard-2, ABRAMS, Challenger, and AMX-10, as well as infantry fighting vehicles, including YPR-765, M113, CVR (T), Pbv-302, LAV, M2A2 Bradley, Marder 1A3, M1126 Stryker, BTR M1117, BOV-VP, etc., as representatives of the Ministry of Defense reported.
Within the framework of the Contact Group for Assistance to Ukraine, eight capability coalitions were created, including the Air Force Coalition, the Integrated Air Defense and Missile Defense Coalition, the Naval Capability Coalition, the Drone Coalition, the IT Coalition, the Artillery Coalition, the Armored Vehicles and Maneuverability Coalition, and the Demining Coalition.
On January 9, 2025, the defense ministries of 14 leading countries together with Ukraine approved the developed roadmaps for the development of the capabilities of all coalitions. This happened during the meeting of the Coalition Leaders Group within the framework of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group ('Ramstein' format).
