Sexual violence during war: how many people applied for compensation.


As part of a pilot project to provide emergency interim reparations for victims of sexual violence, more than 538 individuals have applied, reports Kateryna Levchenko, the government commissioner for gender policy.
According to Levchenko, the project received 300 applications from men, 224 from women, 9 from girls, and 2 from boys.
'As of Monday, we have received 535 applications for participation in the project, and the number continues to grow weekly,' stated the commissioner for gender policy.
The most applications came from the following regions:
- Kherson region - 147 applications;
- Donetsk region - 51 applications;
- Kiev region - 32 applications;
- Zaporizhzhia region - 18 applications;
- Luhansk region - 12 applications.
In the first phase of the project, each victim is to receive compensation of €3,000.
In 2024, the number of domestic violence cases in Ukraine increased by 36%. Since the beginning of the year, 1,521 domestic violence proceedings have been opened, compared to 1,121 during the same period in 2023. On average, 300 such cases are registered per month.
In January 2024, the highest number of domestic violence cases was registered in all of Ukraine. A total of 435 cases were registered in the first month of the year, which is almost double the number in January of last year.
