The island of Chryssi, a fairy-tale gem of Crete, will once again close its doors to tourists in the summer of 2025. Despite its unique nature, the island has fallen victim to a tourism boom. Unfortunately, the island's ecosystem has started to deteriorate due to careless attitudes towards the environment. Therefore, the authorities of Crete have decided to take steps to restore the balance of nature by returning the island to illegal development and other uncontrolled actions.
From the beginning of May to the end of October, tourists will be prohibited from landing on the island of Chryssi, and access to the cedar forest will be strictly limited. However, boats and yachts will be able to circumnavigate the island and make brief stops for swimming, while preserving nature in its untouched state.
This decisive action aims to regulate tourist flow and preserve the uniqueness of Chryssi Island for future generations, giving nature the opportunity to recover from human impact.
The announcement of the closure of Chryssi Island to tourists in the summer of 2025 indicates serious efforts by the authorities of Crete to preserve natural resources and prevent the negative impact of human activity on this fairy-tale location.Read also
