Former commander of the US ground forces in Europe, retired General Ben Hodges forecasts an unexpected effect from the cessation of US aid.
According to Hodges, the halt of military aid from the US to Ukraine may have unpleasant consequences for Russia.
He also notes that the war continues to pose 'big problems' for Moscow, regardless of whether Ukraine receives military aid from the US. The freezing of support may even 'sting' Russia on the battlefield in the long run.
'Russia is actually in big trouble… The premise that the administration uses when it says: 'Ukraine, you have no chances', – is simply not true. The Russians have big problems. The Ukrainians have stopped them, although we have not even committed to helping them win', Hodges said.
Hodges also suggests that halting US aid to Ukraine may inspire European allies of Kyiv to compensate for the lack of support. This 'will be bad for the Ukrainians' and for Europe 'for a while', however in the end the US will regret leaving Ukraine.
He also emphasizes that if more than 20 European countries consolidate their industrial capacities, it will be damaging for the US, which will lose influence.
Earlier, US General Ben Hodges harshly criticized Europe's weakness.
