Chinese hackers attacked the US Treasury.

According to the Washington Post, the Chinese government attacked the Office of Foreign Assets Control of the US Treasury. This attack was aimed at obtaining information about Chinese organizations that may be financially restricted by the US.
The Chinese government's particular interests concern organizations that the US is considering imposing financial sanctions on.
The attack was carried out through a contractor working with the Treasury. The Treasury identified and neutralized the compromised system, but the consequences are still being assessed. The government confirmed that the available documents did not contain classified information, and there are currently no confirmations that the hackers still have access to the system.
This incident is the latest in a series of cyberattacks that the US attributes to China. In turn, the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs denies the accusations and states that it has always been against hacking attacks.
