The Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate has come under scrutiny due to the complicated legal situation regarding its leader - Metropolitan Onufriy, who lost his Ukrainian citizenship. According to human rights activists, this may lead to a violation of his rights, as he faces the threat of statelessness.

Lawyers emphasize that the termination of the church leader's citizenship may contradict international conventions and also point out the lack of a court decision regarding the loss of citizenship. The existence of a Russian passport held by Metropolitan Onufriy is evidenced by official documents from Russia, creating additional legal difficulties in this situation.

"Metropolitan Onufriy finds himself in a complex situation that may conflict with constitutional principles and international treaties ratified by Ukraine," the lawyer emphasized.

Investigations by journalists concerning the presence of Russian passports among clergy of the UOC-MP only highlight the complexity of the situation that Ukrainian lawyers and international legal experts will have to address.
