The Ukrainian team in checkers won 63 medals at the World Championship in Turkey
The Ukrainian team for checkers among athletes with disabilities in the musculoskeletal system, vision, and hearing performed incredibly at the World Championship in Checkers-64, which took place from May 3 to May 16 in Kemeri, Turkey. This was reported by 'Glavkom' referring to the press service of the National Committee of Sports for the Disabled of Ukraine.
65 athletes with disabilities from six countries participated in the tournament. Ukrainians became the world champions with a total of 63 medals!
The Ukrainian team consisted of 30 athletes with disabilities who participated in 20 disciplines of the World Championship program: classic, rapid, and blitz, as well as by nosology and by gender (among men and women).
The Ukrainians won 63 medals at the World Championship: 23 gold, 19 silver, and 21 bronze, and took the first overall position.
25 participants returned home with high awards from the World Championship, 21 of whom are multi-medalists.
The most successful members of the team performed: Fidyik Ivan (total loss of vision) - 3 gold medals, Husleva Lyudmila (vision impairment) - 3 gold medals, Dobrei Inna (total loss of vision) - 3 gold medals, Myrinenko Dmytro (musculoskeletal system impairment) - 3 gold medals, Zanuda Olena (hearing impairment) - 3 gold medals, Okhotsky Oleksandr (hearing impairment) - 3 gold medals, Vedernko Lyudmila (musculoskeletal system impairment) - 2 gold and 1 silver medal, Peresychanov Volodymyr (vision impairment) - 2 gold and 1 bronze medal.
We remind you that four Russian figure skaters (two main and two reserves): Petro Gumenik, Adelija Petrosyan, Vladislav Dikidzh and Alina Gorbatova, were allowed to participate in the qualifying tournament of the Olympics.
In contrast, Russians who supported the war and were mentioned by 'Glavkom' lost the chance to participate in the Olympics - Anastasia Mishina and Oleksandr Gallyamov were declared in the pairs skating; in ice dance - Oleksandra Stepanova and Ivan Bukin.
Analysis
The success of the Ukrainian checkers team at the World Championship indicates a high level of training for athletes in conditions of disability. These achievements confirm the importance of developing the sports movement among people with disabilities and show that nothing prevents achieving high results in sports.
