Unique umbrellas for protection from attackers to appear in Japanese trains.

Japanese trains will receive special umbrellas that can withstand knife strikes. This is being implemented due to the increase in attacks on passengers using cold weapons. The JR West Japan company has developed a new protective means with the hope that it will help passengers deter attackers before the arrival of train staff. The umbrellas have special spokes and a material that is resistant to cuts. They will be installed in public transport in criminal areas of Japan. It is also worth noting that JR West already uses gloves made of similar material, which allow a person to grab a knife from an attacker without harm to their hands.
Increase in number of attacks in Japan
In Tokyo, authorities have implemented a measure to protect service sector personnel from 'kasuhara', a form of harassment by clients. A union survey showed that more than half of service sector workers feel insulted by clients.
