How much land do share owners have: average indicators across Ukraine.

Over the last 3 years, agreements regarding the sale of land shares have been made in Ukraine. The number and size of shares depend on various factors and locations.
At the beginning of 2017, 6.9 million land share owners were registered, owning 27.7 million hectares of agricultural land. This constitutes 89% of privately held land in Ukraine. The average size of a share is 4 hectares, but it varies depending on the region.
According to a survey conducted in 2012, it was found that 79% of share owners are over 50 years old, and 43% are over 60 years old. Starting from July 1, 2021, owners of land plots received after the liquidation of collective agricultural enterprises were granted the right to sell them to other individuals and legal entities.
Land plots were obtained by share owners in stages. Initially, the share of land belonging to the collective agricultural enterprise was determined. Then, each former member of the enterprise received a certificate of ownership of the land share. Eventually, the share became a specific land plot with a physical location.
If the owner has documents for the land share, they cannot sell it. A land plot can be sold, but a share cannot, as the new land legislation does not provide for the sale of a share. In order to sell a share, the owner needs to register it as a land plot.
