Sanctioned US tankers transport Russian oil to India
Tankers that are under US sanctions are involved in transporting Russian oil to India, despite the prohibitions of the New Delhi authorities. According to Bloomberg, the complex supply chain includes several transshipments from ship to ship involving tankers under US and UK sanctions to deliver Russian oil to Indian refineries.
Last week, half a million barrels of oil from the Russian Far East were delivered to the Indian refinery aboard the 'Sokol'. Half of this volume was loaded after two transshipments from vessel to vessel, which involved sanctioned tankers. Other US sanctioned tankers, including Captain Kostichev and Victor Konetsky, were also involved in the trade.
Despite the sanctions, US-controlled tankers continue to transport Russian oil to India, using a complex scheme of transshipments involving banned vessels. This indicates the complexity of modern international economic relations and the interactions among countries attempting to circumvent sanctions to meet their petroleum product needs.
