Strikes on a hospital in Sumy: UN reaction
The UN Humanitarian Coordinator in Ukraine, Mathias Schmale, condemned the strikes by Russian occupiers on a hospital in Sumy. He emphasized that places of medical care should be safe and that combat operations should not affect them. Such strikes are a violation of international humanitarian law and harm the injured and rescuers.
Mathias Schmale stressed that the civilian population and infrastructure should not be targets of strikes. This situation led to the death of nine people and the injury of 20 people, including one police officer. In mourning for the deceased, days of mourning have been declared in the Sumy city territorial community.
