Dangerous Sea - When Swimming, Be Sure to Look in All Directions.

The problem of mines in the sea remains relevant for the Odesa coast. Explosive objects pose a particular risk during storms.
Mines Threat
During storms, sea mines can be washed ashore anywhere along the Odesa coast. Their movement in the water can always result in an explosion. Therefore, even when swimming at open beaches, one should be cautious.
“There are contact detonators that can be triggered by pressure. In half of the cases, unfortunately, this happens. It’s better to avoid close proximity to such objects. According to our protocols, the distance should be no less than one kilometer.”
Dmytro Pletenchuk noted that detecting a mine in the water is difficult because they are often very well hidden. This is what makes them dangerous.
Recently, we wrote about how mines from the Odesa coast can end up on the coasts of Romania, Bulgaria, and Turkey. We also mentioned training on sea demining conducted during international military exercises.
The Odesa coast remains threatened by sea mines that can be washed ashore during storms. Police advise being careful and avoiding proximity to dangerous objects. It is also worth remembering the possibility of spreading mines to other coasts, which can pose a threat to other countries.
