At the 'Business and Sanctions' conference, Olena Vakulenko, the director of the department of sanctions policy and representation in courts of the Ministry of Justice, expressed the opinion that the adoption of the draft law on criminalization of circumventing sanctions could improve the effectiveness of sanctions policy.
According to her, it is important to implement a mechanism for criminalizing the circumvention of sanctions in Ukraine, as currently, sanctioned individuals can evade responsibility. Vakulenko also emphasized the need for a balanced approach to this issue and proposed the use of international practices for asset declaration for individuals who are subject to sanctions.
The draft law on the criminalization of circumventing sanctions could help avoid situations where sanctioned individuals find ways to bypass restrictions. This could make sanctions more effective and help punish those who violate them.
