EU Commissioner: The cost of imported fuel from Russia could have bought 2400 F-35 aircraft.

Europe must rid itself of dependence on Russian fossil fuels
Europe must rid itself of dependence on Russian fossil fuels as it concerns not only the competitiveness of its economy but also security. This was stated by the EU Commissioner for Energy and Housing, Dan Jørgensen. According to Jørgensen, since the beginning of the war against Ukraine, Europe has imported fossil fuels from Russia worth the equivalent of 2400 F-35 aircraft.
'Energy... is also about security. We in Europe are still buying Russian gas, and thereby indirectly helping Putin finance his war. Since the beginning of the war, we have imported fossil fuels from Russia worth the equivalent of 2400 F-35 fighter jets. Obviously, this should not be the case. We must be independent from fossil fuels from Russia,' emphasized the EU representative.
Jørgensen also noted that high energy prices negatively affect Europe's competitiveness, as the EU's industrial sector pays 2-3 times more for energy than some competitors like the USA or China. He also added that millions of Europeans cannot adequately heat their homes due to high energy prices.
'We need to lower prices significantly,' emphasized the EU Commissioner.
