The expert explained how to avoid a demographic catastrophe in Ukraine.

The Deputy Director of the Institute of Demography, Oleksandr Hladun, reported that Ukrainian women need to give birth to a certain number of children to avoid the reduction of Ukraine's population. According to him, in order to maintain a stable population, 100 women need to give birth to 220 children over their lifetime. He also noted that there are fewer births due to an aging population structure in Ukraine.
Hladun compared the situation in Ukraine with other countries, where the birth rate is significantly higher due to a younger demographic structure. He emphasized that the total fertility rate is a more objective metric and shows how many children one woman or 100 women give birth to over their lifetime. Currently, in Ukraine, this rate is 92-98 children, which is low and could lead to a population decline. To avoid this, 100 women need to give birth to 210-220 children.
