Ani Lorak received Russian citizenship.

Ukrainian singer Ani Lorak has become the owner of a Russian passport. The news about this appeared on the 'Glavkom' website, which cites Russian media.
It is reported that the passport was issued on June 9. Ani Lorak has kept her real name - Karolina Kuiyk.
It is worth noting that Lorak has not performed in Ukraine since 2017, as the artist claimed she was pressured in her homeland. After the war began, Lorak was labeled a traitor for her work in the Russian Federation. In Russia, she was accused of collecting donations for the Ukrainian Armed Forces. The singer herself stated that she has never financed the military and will not do so.
In March 2024, Ani Lorak applied for Russian citizenship.
On November 22, 2024, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stripped Ani Lorak of her honorary title 'People's Artist of Ukraine'. The singer also received a new Ukrainian passport, as she did not have one previously. Without a valid document, Karolina Kuiyk could have faced legal issues in Russia, as according to the new rules, Ukrainian citizens who are in Russia without justification must leave the country by September 10, 2025.
By obtaining Russian citizenship, Ani Lorak was deprived of the honorary title of Ukrainian people's artist and received a new Ukrainian passport. This has caused significant discussion in society and division of opinions about her choice and patriotism.
